If it’s a choice between healthy groceries or a tub of whey protein, always go with groceries as whole foods are much better for you. Expecting too much from your supplements – Another common error to avoid making when it comes to fitness supplements is simply expecting too much from your supplements. If you’re looking to build muscle, supplements such as whey protein, creatine, and BCAAs, will all be fairly high up on your list of priorities. When used alongside a healthy diet and a smart and regular training regime, supplements can certainly help give you a slight edge and can speed up your gains, but don’t expect miracles. Despite what some manufacturers may claim, using a certain brand of protein powder will not allow you to build 20 pounds of muscle in 4 weeks, as that just wouldn’t be possible. If however, you are eating the correct foods, training regularly, and training smartly, using whey protein could help you to recover quicker and to perhaps add an extra pound or two of muscle to your frame. Exceeding the recommended dosage – When using fitness supplements, it doesn’t matter what they are, you should NEVER exceed the recommend dosage. Some people seem to think that increasing their dosages will speed up and intensify the results, when in reality, it won’t. If you exceed the recommended dosage and take more than you should, not only will you be wasting your money, more importantly than that, you will also be putting your health at risk. Not purchasing from reputable manufacturers – Because the supplement industry is so lucrative, competition has never been fiercer. Everybody seemingly wants a piece of the action, and unfortunately that means that there are some less than reputable manufacturers out there who are selling subpar supplements online, that do not comply to various health and safety laws and protocols. When you purchase your supplements, read reviews left by others, and always buy from trusted manufacturers.
